A Beginner’s Guide To Nipple Play

Nipples are often an overlooked source of pleasure that, when done correctly, can lead to sensational orgasms. They are two of the most sensitive and reactive parts of your body and it’s well worth giving them some special attention during foreplay and sex. Research shows that nipple stimulation is processed in the same region of the brain as when stimulating the vagina and clitoris – making it part of the holy trinity of female pleasure. Although nipple orgasms are shorter than genital orgasm, they offer greater intensity and supreme sexual sensations.

So, whether you are looking to try some torture or just have some gentle fun; your nipples are the perfect spot to both tease and torment!

Safety First

As with all aspects of kink, if you or your partner experience any pain, notice any discolouration around the nipples or loss of sensation; stop immediately.

Start gently and build your way up. The tissue around the nipples tends to be more sensitive than other areas of the body and will lacerate much quicker. If you or your partner have inverted nipples they are at great risk of infection, so avoid abrasive techniques that could break or cut the skin.

Breathe Before You Touch

While some people like very aggressive nipple stimulation, it’s always a good idea to start off slow and gentle. Gently massaging the area is the most basic way to tease and please. Apply some lube or massage oil to make things nice and slippery. Then while massaging with one hand, use your fingers lightly trace the area around the areola, using your partner’s moans and groans to guide you.

You don’t have to start off with touch. Why not use your mouth to blow across your partner’s nipples? Many nipples are highly sensitive to both touch and temperature, so as you are exploring try to notice how both your partner and their nipples are responding. Then, when you’re ready, try using your lips to softly hold the nipple in your mouth and run your tongue back and forth over it, or start sucking softly.

To Bite or Not to Bite?

If your partner likes more intense stimulation, you can use your teeth, but cautiously at first. Avoid biting down quickly or hard: instead, start by simply putting the nipple gently between your teeth and leaving it there, using your tongue to stimulate the nipple, but not creating much pressure with your teeth. The anticipation alone will be thrilling for some.

When your partner is ready, experiment with nibbling and different pressures. There’s no one way to do it, so experimentation, and paying attention to what’s working for your partner, is the way to go.

Take It Up a Notch

People who discover they like the feeling of having their nipples nibbled, or enjoy other kinds of intense nipple stimulation, may want to explore nipple clamps. They are designed to firmly grip the nipples, producing a pinching effect which can range from light to intense, depending on your preference. In response to the applied stimulus, the body doesn’t have time to processes the pain. Instead, the body releases waves of pleasurable endorphins. Combine nipple toys with vaginal or anal penetration to heighten the sensitivity of your erogenous zones and deliver all new and unique sensations – you won’t regret it!

Before applying clamps, your nipples need to be erect so there’s more for the clamp to grab on to. Once you’re erect, grab the nipple and gently pull outward. Place the nipple clamp just behind the nipple on the areola, so you have access to a tender bud that’s waiting for you to do your worst!

Beginner’s should start with a set that are fully adjustable, like the Vibrating Nipplettes (€28.70, kinky.ie), so that you can control the amount of pressure applied. The metal clips are covered in soft rubber liners for added comfort. An added bonus: with one simple press of a button you can turn on the vibration, making these clamps perfect for beginners and fetish enthusiasts alike. What’s more, they are wireless and waterproof!

Feeling a little naughty? Why not try a pair that come with a weighted chain, such as Fetish Fantasy Alligator Nipple Clamps (€17.22, kinky.ie)? These fully adjustable clamps are ideal for light bondage and those who enjoy having their nipples pinched. The amount of pressure you apply to the nipple is adjustable by turning the screw, and the weighted chain intensifies the pressure as you move (or tug) the chain.

If you consider yourself more of an advanced nipple enthusiast, Clover Clamps – also known as Japanese Butterfly Clamps – might be the right toy for you. Most, like the Fetish Fantasy Japanese Clover Clamps (€17.22, kinky.ie), are spring-loaded and fitted with rubber grips for extra comfort. The only adjustment available is the string or chain found at the base of the nipple clamps, which makes the clamp even tighter…so, the harder you pull, the tighter they grip!
