A Guide To Rimming!

Rimming is the act of using your tongue to lick and penetrate the anus. The anal area is packed with sensitive nerve endings, and so stimulating this area is one of life’s many erotic pleasure. If you are already a fan of anal play, rimming is a variation worth trying. For those new to anal, it’s a gentle and intimate way of experimenting for the first time.

Safety and Hygiene

It goes without saying that hygiene is important. It is important to shower and clean out your anus beforehand. Through washing before rimming, it reduces the risk that germs will spread, it limits unpleasant smells and tastes for the giver, and helps the receiver relax in the knowledge that they won’t catch or stumble across anything unpleasant. If you want a thorough clean you can use an enema – we recommend the Clean Stream Anal Douche Bulb (€ 19.56, kinky.ie) – otherwise showering will also do the job. If you or your partner are still worried about the spread of bacteria and infection, using a barrier could be the solution. Dental dams are best, but an un-lubricated condom or piece of latex will also do the job.

Fruity Fun

If you’re concerned about the taste, flavoured lubes can make the experience a little sweeter for rimmers. There’s plenty of flavours to choose from including, strawberry (€ 7.82, kinky.ie), banana (€ 10.43, kinky.ie), and mint (€ 13.04, kinky.ie) – so there’s something for everyone!

Warming, cooling, and tingling lubes can also add levels of pleasure to your experience. Warming lubricants such as JO H20 Waterbased Warming (€ 10.43, kinky.ie) feel warm when you apply them – gently rub this into the area to add a touch of warmth to your sensual experience. Keep in mind that some lubricants contain oil, so they’re not compatible with latex products. If you plan on using latex condom, dental dam or gloves, make sure you use a brand without oil.

Positions and Techniques

When it comes to rimming, it is all about finding a technique that works for both you and your partner. Take your time testing out a few different positions and methods. For beginners, if the receiver is generally quite strong, I recommend getting your partner to kneel on the sofa, resting their elbows against the back of it and arching their ass out. If this is too intense, lying on their stomach might be more enjoyable.

Don’t forget the foreplay! Begin by massaging, teasing, licking their intimate areas and work your way to the bum cheeks. After a while, start gently pulling the cheeks apart so the anus is exposed and gently kiss and lick the area. When you’re both ready, start off gently by using up and down motions – keeping the tongue outside of the body to begin with.

Once you are ready, make sure the receiver is in a position that gives you easy access to the anus while still being comfortable for them. If you are both enjoying what you’re already doing, keep going with it. If you’re ready to move to the next step, push your tongue in very lightly. The tongue should be kept flat but pointed and there needs to be plenty of lube. We recommend keeping lube (any lube is fine) nearby for quick access, so you can easily top up when it’s needed.

Always listen to what your partner tells you — slow down or stop if anyone becomes uncomfortable. If you both know you enjoy power play, where one of you is dominant and the other is submissive, then you’ll definitely want to experiment with ‘forced’ rimming, where your partner sits on your face, and commands you to “lick!”. Those already versed in BDSM might be inclined to employ some kinky rope bondage to keep their partner is place while you torture them with your pleasure licks. Sensation play, cock and ball torture, and spanking can all be done alongside rimming for added fun. Experimenting and trying new and kinky things is part of the fun, so don’t hold back!
