Anal Beads – A Guide

Anal beads are a great way for beginners to experience anal sex gradually and gently. They can be used alone for unique anal stimulation or during masturbation or intercourse. Anal beads generally consist of multiple spheres or balls attached together. The majority of anal beads start off small and gradually get larger as you move down the chain, allowing you to enjoy more and more length and girth as you get more comfortable.

With over a third of Westerners having tried it, anal penetration is a kink that is becoming increasingly popular in the bedroom. When used correctly provide sensations that can turn a standard orgasm into an intense experience unlike anything else!

Choosing Your Beads

Anal beads are almost always smooth, spheres that are made of plastic, metal or silicone. Some are made from glass or wood; I recommend avoiding these are there’s a chance of the glass breaking or the wood splintering in the anus.  Silicone anal beads, are flexible and you’ll be able to sterilize them, but lots of people prefer more affordable options like rubber or PVC. Once inserted, they can be left in the rectum during intercourse, or can be removed with varying speeds to help achieve orgasm.

When choosing the right beads, there are a few things to keep in mind. Beginners will want to start off with a set of flexible beads that will glide along with every internal curve of your body, such as the Loving Joy Anal Love Beads (€ 7.75 – kinky.ie). The flexibility will allow you to comfortably penetrate deeper and stimulate various parts until you find your pleasure points. If you would prefer something stiff and straight, why not try the Velvet Kiss Joy Stick (€ 38.80, kinky.ie).

Anal beads are one of the most flexible types of anal toys out there when it comes to length – you can insert as much or as little as you like. This flexibility is one of the main attractions of anal beads for beginners as it allows you to move at your own pace. When it comes to length, remember that you can always leave beads out, but you can’t magically make more appear when you want more!

Before buying, make sure the beads are well made and that there’s no risk of the cord breaking inside you. If you plan on inserting the full length of the beads, choose a toy that has a strong, thick loop or a wide and stable handle that’s firmly attached. Flimsy O-rings may not be durable enough to pull out the beads later, and a sturdy base ensures that the beads remain partly outside the body at all times.

Hygiene is Important

Sex can be messy, and even more-so when it comes to anal sex. In fact, according to a recent survey it’s the mess that puts most off from trying it. There are simply steps to take which will ensure that your experience is clean, safe and fun. Before any anal play; make sure you use the toilet at least 30 minutes in advance and wash the area around the anus thoroughly. Generally, faeces is not stored where a penis, tongue or sex toy can reach. However, for those wanting to be squeaky clean, using an enema or douche will help release any build up. These are affordable and easy to use – we recommend Anal Douche (€ 15.51 – kinky.ie) and the Clean Stream Flex Tip Cleansing Enema Bulb (€ 19.39 – kinky.ie). This step is not needed, and is more of a personal preference than a hygiene essential.

As with all toys, wash your beads thoroughly and store them after use. If you and your partner decide to share toys during a kinky session; wash between uses. This reduces the risk of infections and other nasty surprises.

Don’t Forget the Lube

Since the anus does not lubricate itself, lube will make the experience more comfortable and pleasurable. There are plenty of anal lubes available which have a greater viscosity than the standard water based versions – Anal Joy Lovin Lubricant (€ 12.94 – kinky.ie) is an affordable and long lasting anal lube. Some lubes, such as Doc Johnson Relax Anal Relaxer (€ 20.69 – kinky.ie), are made with a formula that delicately warms and relaxes anal muscles. But lubes and creams that numb the anus should be avoided – pain is a sign that something isn’t right and without these signs you could cause some serious damage. If you feel any pain, stop what you’re doing, relax, and try it again. Thoroughly lubricate yourself and your anal beads in the lube of your choice before insertion.

Anal beads are a great beginner’s introduction to anal play. While it might take a couple of tries to get going – anal beads will soon be your new favourite toy!
