Whether you enjoy the excitement of extending or you simply have huge anal ambitions – stretching feels amazing and enables you to enjoy fisting, larger anal toys, and other kinky activities. The anus is packed with nerve endings, and anal orgasms have been known to happen for women as well as men – so with the added stimulation you will soon experience an orgasm like no other!

Read the following and you’ll go from a beginner to a stretcher in no time!

Safety First

If done carefully, anal stretching should be extremely pleasurable, with only a small amount of discomfort (as with any type of kink). Safe and effective stretching takes time, so take it slow and don’t force it. If you experience any severe discomfort, pain, or bleeding, stop immediately. It takes about three to six hours for the anus to return to normal, so give your body plenty of time to recover between sessions. We recommend two to three days.

Sex can be messy, and even more-so when it comes to anal play. There are simply steps to take which will ensure that your experience is clean, safe and fun. It is important to shower and clean out the anus beforehand. Make sure you use the toilet around 30 minutes in advance and was the area thoroughly, this will reduce the risk that germs will spread, limit unpleasant smells and tastes, and help dispel any fears about hygiene and cleanliness. If you want a thorough clean you can use an enema or douche three to four hours before your anal play to help release and build-up. These are affordable and easy to use –we recommend the Fetish Fantasy Deluxe Douche and Enema System (€32.15, kinky.ie). This step is not needed, and is more of a personal preference than a hygiene essential.

As with all toys, wash them thoroughly with warm soapy water and store them after use. If you and your partner decide to share toys during a kinky session; wash between uses.
This reduces the risk of infections and other nasty surprises. There are some great products specifically designed for cleaning sex toys on the market, such as Loving Joy Toy Cleaner (€6.88, kinky.ie). To use these, spray the cleaner on generously and let it soak in for a few minutes. Afterwards, rinse well and let it air dry. It’s important to make sure these dry, as any unwanted moisture increases the chances of fungus and bacteria build up.

Don’t Forget the Lube

The anus is not self-lubricating, which can lead to tiny tears, so plenty of lube is needed. Lube will reduce friction and will make the experience more comfortable and pleasurable. There are plenty of anal lubes available which have a greater viscosity than the standard water based versions – Anal Joy Lovin Lubricants (€11.49, kinky.ie) is a hard wearing, affordable and silky smooth anal lube. Thoroughly lubricate yourself and your anal toy in the lube of your choice before insertion.

For those that are a little tense about the experience, Doc Johnson Relax Anal Relaxer (€18.36, kinky.ie) is a long-lasting water-based lube that delicately warms and relaxes the sphincter muscles for added comfort and fun. However, avoid creams and lube with numbing ingredients. Pain is a sign that something isn’t right and without these signs you could cause some serious damage to yourself. If you feel any pain, stop what you’re doing, relax, and try it again.

Getting Started

Start with a small, tapered butt plug. The butt plug should be smooth and not have any sharp surfaces that could scratch the delicate lining of the anal canal. Softer materials such as silicone and rubber make for great toys as they are forgiving yet firm enough to allow easy insertion. Once inserted, they can be left in the rectum during intercourse, or can be removed with varying speeds to help achieve orgasm.

When choosing the right plug, there are a few things to keep in mind. Beginners will want to start with a small and flexible toy, such as the BASIX Mini Butt Plug (€11.47, kinky.ie). This kinky toy is made from latex free rubber; measuring 4” in length and with a tapered end, this small, comfortable butt plug is safe and easy to use. It gently graduates, so you can easily experiment with girth and depth. A sturdy base ensures that the toy remains partly outside the body at all times and can be easily removed later. When you’re ready to take on something bigger there’s plenty to choose from – whether you want something simple like the Classic Anal Plug in Medium (€19.51, kinky.ie) or you’re looking to experiment with new materials and textures with the Dark Stallion Silicone Dual Butt Plug (€17.22, kinky.ie) – there’s something for everyone!

Insert the plug into your anus until it starts to feel uncomfortable, then slide it back out. Take a moment and then repeat the process. You may find that this time you can enjoy a deeper exploration – don’t despair if this is not the case, everyone’s different! It may take a few sessions, but repeat until you’re able to take the whole plug. When you’re ready, move up to the next size and repeat.
