How To Use a Butt Plug

Butt plugs are a great way for beginners to experience and explore the boundaries of anal sex, either through solo masturbation or during intercourse. Designed specifically for anal play, a butt plug with gently stretch the anus and stimulate the sensitive nerve endings for out-of-this-world pleasure.

Choosing Your Plug

When choosing your plug, there are a few things to keep in mind. Butt plugs should be smooth and curved to protect the delicate lining of the anal canal. The majority are made from plastic or silicone, but some are made from metal, wood or glass. Beginners should start with silicone or rubber plugs, like the Starlight Booty Bopper (€16.07, kinky.ie), as they are flexible yet firm enough to allow easy insertion. Once inserted, they can be left in during intercourse, or can be removed with varying speeds to help achieve orgasm.

Start with a small butt plug such as the Classic Anal Plug – Small (€17.22, kinky.ie). This kinky toy is made from latex free filled plastisol vinyl rubber. Measuring 3.5” in length and with a tapered end, this small, comfortable butt plug is safe and easy to use. It smoothly graduates from 0.1” – 1” in width to the base, so you can easily experiment with girth and depth. When you’re ready to take on something bigger; the Classic Anal Plug also comes in a medium (€19.51, kinky.ie) and large size (€21.81, kinky.ie).

Make sure your toy has a firm base or handle. A sturdy base ensures that the toy remains partly outside the body at all times and can be easily removed later.

Don’t Forget the Lube

Since the anus doesn’t self-lubricate, lube will make the experience more comfortable and pleasurable. There are plenty of anal lubes available which have a greater viscosity than the standard water based versions – Pjur Silicone Back Door Relaxing Anal Glide (€18.36, kinky.ie) is a long lasting lube that has been specifically designed to relax the sphincter. However, lubes and creams that numb the anus should be avoided; pain is a sign that something isn’t right and without these signs you could cause some serious damage. If you feel any pain, stop what you’re doing, relax, and try it again.

How to Use a Butt Plug

To start, lubricate your butt plug and around your anus.

Start on all fours. Holding the based and shaft of the butt plug, position the tip at the rim of your anus, and gently insert. Hold the plug in this position and take time getting used to the feeling. When you feel comfortable, slide a little more of the plug in. Once more than the tip of the plug is inside you, you may want to remove your hand from the shaft and use just the base to provide any motion. Keep inserting the plug slowly, and let the plug sit inside you with the flare base or handle resting externally. It might take a few goes before you can take the whole plug – take your time and enjoy the intense anal fulfilment!

What you do next is up to you. Some enjoy leaving the plug inside them during intercourse or for prolonged periods of time, while others like sliding the plug in and out to experience the thrill of thrusting. Beginners should remove the toy after twenty minutes, but more experienced users are safe to keep the butt plug inserted for several hours. However, the toy should be removed every hour to apply more lubricant.
