Congratulations are in order for hundreds of adult-film actors and executives, as AVN recently announced the nominations for its 2016 AVN Awards – often called the Oscars of Porn. Now in its 33rd year, the AVN Awards Show is by far the adult industry’s biggest night, and the award itself is the industry’s highest honour. This year’s show takes place on January 23rd inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas – with a stylish red carpet pre-show and lavish ceremony, the AVN Awards celebrates outstanding achievements in the industry.
Tweaking the Categories
The industry is continually evolving and the AVN Awards are evolving with it, changing both the awards and the requirements. One of the biggest changes this year was the inclusion of scenes distribued solely on the web in several major categories. This includes content produced by online pornographic companies such as PervCity.com and Brazzers.com.
AVN Senior Editor Peter Warren said, “We went back to the drawing board in a sense this year and reexamined how we as an awarding body acknowledge the product on the market, with an eye toward beginning to focus more on the individual sex scene as the predominant, driving archetype for adult entertainment, as opposed to the full-length movie. Of course, full movies of all stripes are still very much a part of the adult landscape, and we hardly moved away from giving them their due. As always, it was an intense, painstaking process, but I’m tremendously proud of the results, and on behalf of my fellow committee members, I offer the highest congratulations to all the nominees.”
Another change to this year’s nominations is the addition of the Best Polyamory Movie, which has been added in recognition of the wide variety of movies released that celebrate the many aspects of non-traditional sexual liaisons. “Reviewing this category was one of the biggest pleasures of this year’s nominations process,” said AVN editor-in-chief Sharan Street. “We enjoyed many hours of erotic fantasies produced with great creativity.”
Among the nominees for Best Polyamory Movie are titles that focus on the concept of infidelity, including My Wife’s 1st Cuckold (Airerose/Pure Play) and Francesca Le Is a #Hotwife (LeWood/Evil Angel). Others celebrate kinky swinger communities and show footage of real-life swingers, such as Swingers Wife Swap 3 (Adam & Eve Pictures) and Real American Swinger Stories 2 (Forbidden Fruits/Exile). Then there are some that are just plain fun – Sinners Ball (Wicked Pictures), Marriage 2.0 (LionReach/Adam & Eve Pictures), and Slutty Wife, Happy Life (Brazzers/Pulse).

Nominations are still open, so there’s plenty of time left to vote. The final winners will be announced at the 2016 AVN Awards Show, taking place on January 23rd. The Award show is the grand finale of the AVN Week, a series of events that includes Internext and the world-famous AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. The latter, now in its 18th year, takes place between Jan 20th and 23rd and is currently the largest pornography trade show in the world. The four-day show mixes industry-only events with open hours for fans seeking to meet their favourite stars in the industry.
